Creating a healthy relationship with house cleaning is key to enjoying the everyday household tasks. Even the simplest routines can be daunting if you’re not fully aware of what it means to you. First and foremost, ditch the word CHORES. This is an ugly word to everyone, not just our children. I remember having a chore list when I was younger and it made me resent the parents that imposed them on me. Instead use terms like:
- To Do List
- Daily Tasks
- Weekly Routine
This sets the tone for your family immediately because it’s not a chore, it’s a lifestyle. And your kids will respect the routines much more. When you instill a healthy everyday ‘to do’ list, you are making everyone aware of how important it is to do them.
How To Enjoy House Cleaning

Give yourself plenty of grace during the transition. We must incorporate a lot of self love and care into our everyday house cleaning routines to avoid overwhelm, stress and feelings of guilt, shame, exhaustion. Simplicity is always the goal. Whether you already have a pretty simple to do list or you’re aiming for a really calm and relaxed tidy up session, you’re going to figure everything out overtime. It’s all about adjusting and learning how to do tasks differently to make life run more smoothly.
Benefits Of Having A Clean Home
A simple task like opening the window blinds every morning can really make an impact on how we perform our other duties. If you live in darkness or know someone who does, please reiterate how life changing this can be…
- Helps combat depression and anxiety
- Relieves stress if you perform the duties mindfully
- Increases productivity
- Boosts mood
- Creates a positive energy flow
- Attracts wealth
- Helps you sleep better
How To Create A Healthy Relationship With House Cleaning
- Understand they are not chores, but a craft of your living situation
- Ditch the negativity associated with cleaning, decluttering and organizing
- Transform the mind from negative to positive (say, I love my home…)
- Envision and create mood boards
- Create strict morning, evening routines – make the bed everyday even if it’s a little messy. Make a list for the day/week
- Do tasks mindfully, slowly
- Affirmations
- Let the natural light in as much as possible
- Do things in mini sessions
- Avoid purging
- Craft a habit (30 days)
- Go more minimal (take the minimalism challenge)

In most cases, using chemical cleaning products disrupts our ability to perform the duty successfully. This is because the toxins are creating an imbalance in our hormones, creating brain fog, migraines and gut issues without you even realizing it.
Ditch the toxic cleaning products immediately. There are very few ingredients you need to clean your house peacefully. When you go more minimal with your routines you begin to enjoy them and it feels really good to finally discover that beautiful relationship with it.
Wake up well rested. Getting plenty of undisturbed sleep will make doing small tasks seem effortless.
Simple House Cleaning Tips
- Do small things everyday to prevent overwhelm- this could be loading a few dishes instead of waiting for the sink to pile up : PRO TIP– avoid placing a ton of dishes in the sink. Properly wash the kitchen sink for best results and to create a healthier habit.
- Do 1 small load of laundry per day! This may seem irrelevant but it helps if you can craft the habit. Overtime you will notice that you’re decluttering and downsizing more and putting clothes back where they belong in a timely fashion. For some reason when there’s a HUGE load of clothes that need to be folded, we get overwhelmed fast. Which leads to the pile up. If we do a small load, fold a little at a time, then we can put away faster.
- Use a stick vacuum because large bulky products are exhausting.
- Clean while you’re in the shower with Castile soap. Be careful not to slip.
- Have catch all baskets or bins for randomness until you can go through.
- Ditch the junk drawer for good.
- Declutter for 30 days to create a habit of letting go.
- Ditch the hoarding mentality.
- Shopping bans are everything.
- Avoid buying in bulk.
- Take food and drinks out of original packaging.
- More storage bins doesn’t mean you’re organized.
- Envision the space you want.
Remember that when you clean your home you are striving for a space of calm, relaxation and safety. Feeling safe is essential to our well being. If you’re bothered by the way something looks, fix it or get rid of it. Don’t overthink cleaning. It’s super easy when you tackle it an entirely different way.
